How Keyword Ranking Works
Learn how Keyword Ranking helps you monitor organic and paid search visibility.
Keyword Ranking helps you monitor where your products appear in Amazon search results and understand how your organic and paid visibility relates to your sales and advertising performance.
Instead of checking keyword positions separately from your PPC and sales data, Keyword Ranking brings these insights together in one place.

Why track keyword rankings?
Keyword ranking tells you more than whether a keyword is going up or down.
For example, you may discover:
Your product ranks #25 organically for an important keyword, but your Sponsored Product ad appears near the top of the results.
This can help you understand the relationship between your advertising activity and organic visibility.
You can use Keyword Ranking to:
- Monitor important keywords over time.
- See whether your organic ranking is improving or declining.
- Compare organic and paid visibility.
- Find keywords with good sales or conversion potential but weak rankings.
- Compare keyword performance across multiple products.
- Identify opportunities to improve your keyword strategy.
By combining ranking data with performance and market data, you can make more informed decisions about your advertising and keyword strategy.
What can you see in Keyword Ranking?
Keyword Ranking provides visibility into your product’s performance for tracked keywords, including:
- Organic Rank – Your product’s position in Amazon’s organic search results.
- Ads Rank – Your product’s position in Sponsored Products search results.
- Sales and conversions – Understand how keyword visibility relates to sales performance.
- Spend and ACOS – Compare keyword visibility with advertising performance.
- P&L and other performance data – Evaluate whether ranking improvements are contributing to profitable growth.
- SQP data – Understand search demand, conversion, and market share for supported keywords.

Use these metrics together to understand not only where your product ranks, but also whether that visibility is translating into meaningful business results.
What can you do with Keyword Ranking?
After reviewing your ranking data, you can:
- Track important keywords to monitor their performance over time.
- Compare multiple ASINs to understand keyword visibility across products.
- Analyze ranking trends using 7-day and 14-day averages.
- Review SQP data to understand search demand and market performance.
- Identify keyword opportunities based on ranking, conversion, demand, and profitability.
- Launch Single Keyword Campaigns (SKC) for keywords that may have advertising opportunities.
- Use ranking data in Bidding Rules where supported.
How does Keyword Ranking work with product variations?
Keyword tracking works at the child ASIN level.
A parent ASIN represents a group of related product variations, while each child ASIN represents a specific variation, such as a particular size or color.
Why can a different variation appear in search results?
Amazon may display a specific child ASIN from a variation family in search results rather than displaying every variation individually. Amazon’s guidance states that, in categories where child products are displayed in search results, the best-selling child ASIN is displayed.
Availability can also affect which variation is presented. For example, an in-stock variation will generally appear first before an out-of-stock variation.
