How to Use Bulk Manage for Automation Settings
Learn how to manage, update, and apply automation settings across your account in bulk using one centralized page.
Bulk Manage allows you to manage your account's automation setup from one centralized page. Instead of editing rules, strategic objectives, assignments, and algorithm settings individually, you can download the settings you want to update, make changes in Excel, and upload them in one go.
Whether you're updating automation settings across multiple products, adjusting bids for seasonal campaigns, or reorganizing rule assignments, Bulk Manage makes it easier to manage large automation setups while keeping you in control of every change.
Benefits of Using Bulk Manage
Bulk Manage is particularly useful when you have multiple products, campaigns, or automation rules that need to be updated at the same time.
Here are some ways it can help:
- Manage automation from one place: Access and update rules, strategic objectives, criteria profiles, assignments, and general algorithm settings without navigating through individual pages.
- Save time on account-wide changes: Update multiple automation settings in one pass instead of editing each rule or product individually.
- Focus on specific products: Filter your automation setup by ASIN to work on a particular product without having to sort through your entire account.
- Create and edit Strategic Objectives in bulk: Make changes to multiple Strategic Objectives through the same download-and-upload workflow.
- Review changes before applying: Check all proposed updates before confirming them. Nothing is changed until you click Apply.
- Keep reusable copies of your setup: Save downloaded configuration files so you can restore previous settings or reuse them for future adjustments.
[drawer]How to Use Bulk Manage
Bulk Manage follows a simple three-step process: download your automation settings, edit them in Excel, and upload the updated files for review.
Step 1: Download Your Automation Settings
Start by opening the Bulk Manage page in your Scale Insights account.
Choose which parts of your automation setup you want to download. You can select:
- Rules and Settings: Download the configuration of your automation rules and their settings.
- Rule Assignments: Download the assignments connecting rules to the relevant products or ad groups.
- Everything: Download the complete set of supported automation configurations.
- Custom Selection: Choose only the specific components you want to manage.
You can also use the ASIN filter to narrow down the setup to a particular product.
Once you've selected what you need, download the files.
Tip: If you're planning to make significant changes, keep an untouched copy of the downloaded files. This gives you a reference to your original configuration and makes it easier to restore previous settings.
Step 2: Edit the Downloaded Files in Excel
Open the downloaded files in Microsoft Excel and make the necessary changes.
Depending on what you've downloaded, you can update supported rule settings, strategic objectives, assignments, criteria profiles, and general algorithm settings.
You can also create or edit Strategic Objectives in bulk.
Before making changes, keep these important points in mind:
- To delete or unassign an item: Set the
Delete & Unassignfield toYesin the corresponding row. Simply removing a row from the Excel file will not delete or unassign anything. - To preserve existing configurations: Avoid changing fields you don't intend to update.
- For shared rules: Editing a rule that is used by multiple ad groups will update that rule everywhere it is assigned. Review its existing assignments before making changes.
Once you've finished editing, save your files in the appropriate format for uploading.
Step 3: Upload and Review Your Changes
Return to the Bulk Manage page and upload your edited files.
Scale Insights will process the files and display a review of the proposed changes.
Before applying anything, carefully review the changes to make sure:
- The correct rules and settings are being updated.
- The intended products and ad groups are affected.
- Any items you want to delete or unassign are correctly marked.
- No unintended changes are included.
Once you've verified everything, click Apply to confirm the changes.
Important: Uploading a file does not automatically update your automation setup. Nothing changes until you review the proposed changes and click Apply.
[drawer]Example Use Case: Preparing Your Automation for Q4
Imagine you manage several Amazon products and have multiple automation rules configured across your account.
As Q4 approaches, you want to increase your maximum bids and adjust your target ACOS to accommodate higher advertising activity during the holiday season.
Instead of opening each rule individually, you can use Bulk Manage to handle the changes in one workflow.
Here's how:
- Download your current setup: Select the relevant rules and settings, or download everything you need.
- Save a backup: Keep an untouched copy of your original configuration.
- Update your settings: Open the downloaded files in Excel and adjust the maximum bids and target ACOS values for your holiday campaigns.
- Upload and review: Upload the updated files and check the proposed changes.
- Apply the changes: Once everything looks correct, click Apply to update your automation settings.
When January arrives, you can use your saved original configuration as a reference to restore your previous settings through the same workflow.
This approach makes seasonal adjustments much easier, especially when managing a large number of products and automation rules.
[drawer]Important Considerations and Limitations
Before using Bulk Manage, keep the following in mind:
- Removing rows does not delete configurations: To delete or unassign an item, you must explicitly set
Delete & UnassigntoYes. - Shared rules affect all assigned ad groups: Changes to a shared rule are reflected everywhere that rule is used, not just the product or ad group you may have been viewing.
- Changes require confirmation: Uploading a file alone does not apply any changes. You must review the proposed updates and click Apply.
- Keep a backup of your original configuration: This is especially useful when making large-scale or seasonal changes that you may want to reverse later.
Best Practice: Always review your uploaded changes carefully before applying them. When managing a large automation setup, a small adjustment to a shared rule can affect multiple ad groups across your account.
[drawer]Frequently Asked Questions
Can I update only one product's automation settings?
Yes. Use the ASIN filter to narrow down your automation setup to a specific product before downloading the relevant configurations.
Do I need to update every automation rule?
No. You can download everything or choose a custom selection based on the components you want to manage.
Will deleting a row from Excel remove the corresponding rule or assignment?
No. Removing a row from the file does not delete or unassign anything. Set Delete & Unassign to Yes on the relevant row to indicate that action.
Will editing a shared rule affect all the ad groups using it?
Yes. If a rule is shared across multiple ad groups, editing that rule changes its settings everywhere it is used.
Are my changes applied immediately after uploading the file?
No. After uploading, you'll first see a review of the proposed changes. Nothing is updated until you click Apply.
Can I use Bulk Manage to restore my previous automation settings?
You can use a previously saved configuration as a reference for restoring settings. Upload the saved configuration and review the proposed changes before applying them.
